[UPDATED] SLIM: HAS ALWAYS BEEN THE SEXY!

**Click HERE to watch the updated 4.4.4 SlimSaber Review

The title says it all! This time around we take a look at SlimKat. Although I'll be reviewing the SlimSaber build, even if you flash the official SlimKat, the look and feel will remain the same. I personally prefer SlimSaber. So coming back to the topic, Slimroms have always been a promising option. The early "beta" builds of SlimBean 4.3 were rock steady and ready for daily use. I have even reviewed Weekly Build 4 on my channel. Ever since then, the slim-team (If you will!) has been generating quite a buzz and they certainly don't disappoint with what they have in store for us when it comes to KitKat development.

SlimKat is based on Android 4.4.2. Initial impressions are positive. The rom is smooth and snappy without overclock and the in-built kernel has been perfectly tuned. Many users including myself have reported surprisingly good battery life (1, 23). You can install Greenify and further improve your battery life. There are some customization options for changing the basic stuff within the rom. Watch my full video review to learn more about these options. You can install Xposed framework though and take the rom customization to a whole new level! Coming to the look and feel now, Slimroms have always been famous for their custom DPI setting of 182. Yes the text and icons do look small but after using the DPI setting of 240 which most other roms come with, the new experience is refreshing and pleasant. Plus there is more info available at a glance due to 182 DPI.

Let's take a look at some of the system apps now. Camera and camcorder are both functional and you can enjoy shooting 720p and 1080p videos at 30 fps with stereo recording. All the usual connectivity options like WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G (HSPA+) are fully functional and I must mention, bluetooth headsets will work too. If you are a regular Google Maps user and always use Navigation on the go, you wouldn't be disappointed either as GPS is fully functional & you'll get a lock within ten seconds. Turning our focus towards some of the most useful and famous user apps, I am happy to report that ad-blocking apps like AdAway are working and so is Titanium Backup. Although I'd advise you not to restore your app data and system data using Titanium Backup. Last but certainly not the least, the rom supports OTA (Over-The-Air) updates so can save yourself the trouble of downloading each build from your pc and booting into the recovery and flashing it manually every single time. The phone will do all that for you just at the tap of a button!

So do let me know what you think about this unique 4.4.2 flavor!
